Just wondering how this compares with other tubes in the same price range?

I don't think it is produced anymore?

Check your PMs, I gave details there.

Yep, it's a nice mic, no longer made (I'm pretty sure), but not your garden variety tube mic. It's not an LD (more like a medium diaphragm), and it pre-dates the current crop of low cost Chinese tube mics (as well as the Solidtube, 4060, etc.) so it was only competing with the "big guys" when it was designed - and it wasn't trying to emulate any discontinued "classics" (U47, C12, ELAM251, U67 etc.etc.). Works well on a lot of male vocalists & surprisingly good on piano.

Thanks, I got your PM. I read a review from SOS (1998 I think) and a few others and they all thought it to be good, but SOS said it wasn't as smooth as the Solidtube! They thought it was a little hard edged, but not seriously so and all agreed it worked well on most male voices. One reviewer said it compared well to a U87, with a tad more warmth.

Anyone else had any experience with it?

Digitmus also told me that if were to pay less than $750 for a used one this would be a good buy in his estimation. Well, for that sort of cash, there are many new and used Tube mics out there. How much would the rest of you pay for one (in mint condition)?

I am not planning on paying over $350, as I am poor at the moment and it is not a mic I had planned on buying as I have never heard one. I am only concidering the mic as the offer as come my way!

However, I was planning on getting a tube mic at some point (when I had some cash) and was considering the SP T3, Rode NTK, SE Z5600 and ADK TC or A48 (possible the TT if the price drops).

Would you wait out for one of these over the Peavey? I know the SE and ADK's aren't spoken of with much love around these parts, but most comments seem to be from those who have never heard them and who just pass on negative hear-say, started by people who had never heard them in the first place!?
