Anyone been able to locate these panels in Michigan, I am in the Lansing area and have had no luck. I have tried the hotline, but the references have not panned out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Stan,
I'm in Lansing also, and have had zero luck finding 703. OC was no help to me when I called. The closest thing I was able to find was Rockwool from a drywall company on Canal, South of 496 called Professional Drywall Supply. They didn't stock it, but were very willing to work with me on what to get. I haven't started building, but when I do I will probably order from them.

You can check out the specs of the rockwool and compare it to the 703 here

This is the product that they carry.

Thanks for the info Eric, did they quote you prices yet then? What size were the sheets? I actually at one time found a place in the Detroit area that sells 703 and delivers to Lansing. It was just under $1 sq/ft for 1" which I know isn't the best deal from what I have heard of others getting it for. I will keep checking around to see if I can find it. Good to hear from someone else in Lansing....

I don't remember what the prices were, but it was considerably less than 703. Are you doing a full studio or building panels?

Eric

I don't know if this will help or not (I'm in Southern California) -- but Knauf makes a very competitive product - maybe they have some dealers out your way. You'll want to check with commercial insulation places, not the local home depot kind of stores.

Good luck!

Thanks for the responses...I am basically wanting to make panel absorbers and bass traps. It's a basement studio for my own enjoyment....but has no treatment yet..not good. I will post if I find any new leads. I was also wondering....if space is not an issue....would some R19 or the like work as well? I can't find NRC values for it......

Stan

Stan, I made some panels using R-19. They work pretty good down to 250hz. If you put them in the panels paper side out they act as mid band absorber targeted at 250 -500 hz. If you have any questions about these, call me at 353-0652 ( my office). I should be here until about 3:30.

Lee, how can you live in California then. My diving team went to LA for our winter training trip and froze our asses off. The warmest day we had was 62 (Dec 14 - 23) all everyone kept telling us is "it never gets this cold" "I don't know where all the rain is coming from, it never rains" RIGHT :)

Eric

Eric.....do you work at MSU as well? I am over here at WKAR TV....small world eh? I might just try a few panels with the R-19 as I already have some around the house...thanks again.
