I currently own 2 Rode NT3s that I use as overheads and I was wondering if I would get a better sound if I used two mxl v93s. I already own one v93. I will mostly be recording rock/punk/metal bands, but who knows what the future holds.

Your NT3's are probably just fine.

You might get a little different sound out of the 93's, but I wouldn't necessarily say better.

It does not hurt having options. Having the ability to be flexible is a plus in any studio.

I own a pair of rode NT3 for overheads,
and I record rock bands also.

try put the mics more high, use all your boom of the stand.
point one to the HitHat, and the other one tho the ride.

check for phase problems.
again, try use a high boom.

I like the results of the rodes for cymbals in the mix.
I use a highpass filter in the OverHeads (canam plugin).
