Overheads with different pre's

I am in the process of trying some different mic setups on a drumkit, and have run into a few issues. I'm running everything into a Mackie powered amp, and then individual outs to my Firewire 1814. I do have a UA 610 preamp, but the question is, should I use it if everything else is going to be running through the Mackie preamps? I ran one of my preamps through the UA and the other through the Mackie, and with the Mackie cranked to the point of feedback it still didn't match the levels of the UA 610. Any suggestions?

Ok.....on which mic? One of the overheads, kick, snare? If on one of the overheads, won't the difference in level between the two cause problems?

Ooops, I thought it was a stereo preamp. I would still use it on the snare, or something.

Yeah, if it's a mono pre, experiment. Try it on the kik, and try it on the snare.

yep, i agree with the folks above--try it on kick and snare. also experiment with a mono overhead and try it there--do you really need a pair of overheads? lastly, try it on the room mic (assuming you're using one--and if you're not, do :D).

cheers,
wade
