has anyone bought oktava mics from this "Recording Services" place that always has some on ebay? i'm specifically looking at mc012's, and they're cheaper than soundroom but don't seem like a "guitar center" kinda place, like they might actually listen to the things...

anyone have experience with them?

thanks!

I just bought a set from GC...they seem to be pretty close, amazingly enough. $199 for the pair.

An aside about the 012...last night, as I was breaking one of the 012's down, I dropped the capsule end onto a tile floor from about 3 feet up, and watched it bounce across the room. I let out the obligatory "Oh shit", put the capsule back on the body, hooked everything back up, and let out a sigh of relief as I checked the output-it seems to be fine.

Gotta love Russian over-engineering...

When you figure that it was the first time I had used the mics (EVER), it'd say it's more like God protecting children and fools. I'm not sure what category I'd be placed in...possibly both. :D

Valuable lesson learned-disassemble 012's over something soft, preferably less than a foot away...

H2o, Also note that the threads are real fine, so be careful not to cross-thread them, which is easy.- Be gentle...Richie

I just landed a pair from CG, too- the $200 deal for 2 was too good to pass up and I need some mics to use with teenagers and not worry too much about having them get banged up.

I had the sales guy get all the mics out from the back, set up of 2 stands, and get a set of cans for me to listen. Time to listen for sound differences!!

Wow! The first 2 were like night and day! One was MUCH quieter! No, thank you! I kept the loud one and tried a few more. They were all much more closely matched. I spent about 15 minutes with 2 mics panned hard L/R and comparing the sounds.

The pair I got sound about as close as my C1's and closer than my Nady scm900's. Certainly good enough for the kids. If you don't get them from the Sound Room, though, you should probably listen to the ones you buy before sinking your cash into them.

take care,
Chris

I've noticed that already. I also noticed that the mic clip threads are pretty crappy-I'm already having to deal with cross-threading one of those.

Thanks, Richie!

I've got replacement MC012's coming from Musician's Friend. The two they sent each had dents, and one didn't work at all. I'm hoping I don't have to return the next two....

what a pain! i hate having to return stuff. this "recording services" place that always has a bunch of oktavas on ebay SEEMS to be of a different stripe than GC or whatever, but i fear receiving crappy mc012's.

they're just so much cheaper than the soundroom...but maybe you get what you pay for!

haven't heard from anyone who's bought from them...
