Just curious about this... I was watching a 311 concert on tv last night and could swear I saw the drummer using a pair of Sennheiser e609's for his overhead mics. I haven't seen dynamic mics used too often for overheads let alone that particular mic. Although, aparently it worked. Has anyone seen or heard of this before? Just thought it was kind of weird.

kickin it old school....

On the cover of Neil Young's "Harvest" there is a single RE-20 used as an Overhead...not sure if it made it to tape though.

Might not be so weird if it was a live concert.

IT's not uncommon to see LDDs used as OHs in live situations, I've seen plenty of 421s used both as OHs and close mics on the drums in live situations. Even standard dynamics can work just fine. Personally, I'm usually perfectly happy with a pair of 57s and a kick mic for live applications in anything smaller than an airplane hanger.
