King of Bling
I got his drum tracks, I "mixed" 'em (God, I suck). I turned the percussive noises up...(except the tambourine, which was already brutally loud :D) I also turned the bass down, b/c I cannot get a bass sound that doesn't make me vomit..."woofiness - muddiness" - These are my trademarks.

I deleted the other thread, but for those who didn't see it, eric's work was spot on and well received.

So if it sucks now, it's all me. Eric, I appreciate your help very much.

Yeah, there was actually some funny stuff in that thread, but I had 2 very good reasons for deleting it.

(1) I'm sick of me; and
(2) I dropped about 14 "F"-bombs in that thread, and I wasn't really too proud of that.

But man, that Emmett Otters Jugband Christmas thing is...well dammit, I've actually never heard of it. I can't help you, brotha'!

:D
(drums loud enough??)

Hey, great song Chris! I love the writing, the arrangement, all the music end of things.

As far as the mix goes, it doesn't sound like you're a long ways off here. Maybe just a little more tweaking with levels and eq. The voice sounds much more up front than the rest of the music. what I can hear of the bass doesn't sound so bad... turn that puppy up!

The voice sounds a little muffled sometimes. And this is some great singing, so I'd like to hear a little more careful eqing to bring it out.

Overall, I'd like to hear the voice sitting a little more equally with everything else. But this is a damn good song.

Chris

Hi Chris....sounds good....

I like the improved harmony vox.....
drums sound just a bit hot on the hi-hat....perhaps it's crashin' with the tambourine.....

Needs bass big time man....

Really good song man,

Take it easy,
Joe

;) chris, very nice. vocals are great, and i really like the "double time" change. Bass could be louder, maybe my computer speakers.

Chris,

I really liked this one the first time you posted it, and I think it's only gotten better. The drums really round it out and make it cook a little.

The tambourine sounds good, but it confused me because I kept wanting to hear the accent on the upbeat rather than the down. That's probably a matter of preference though. I'm not very good at thinking outside the box.

Twist

Interesting addition. Is it snare only?

With the drums playing the quick pattern in the chorus, I'm hearing some kick ass banjo and mandolin "chuk a chuk a" going on... what do ya think? Maybe substitute the slide guitar with a dobro in the style of Jerry Douglas? hmmm...... just a thought....

I dig your music. It's twisted, but in a good way!:D
Nice recording, love the doubletime too.

Bob

A better song now. I liked the panned voices near the end. I didn't notice that the first time around.

Only a couple of gripes.. The answer backs on the "Old yeller" in an AM radio voice doesn't do anything for me.

Top notch execution on the drums, the doubled up stuff in the chous didn't seem to fit with the ambience of the song. Although it fits ok during the last chorus - with the cool vocal stuff going on.

Good job to you both...

Just listening now on headphones so not the best listening environment. The snare level is much better now.. the double time in the chorus doesn't sound as obvious anymore. Perhaps though the snare is offering to much competition for the guitars now and could go down 0.5-1.5 dB. Just a thought.

Excellent song.

Thanks for Listening...

Okay, "groucho," "joro," "dtb," and TripleM...the bass is up, the drums are down a tad, and so is the vocal.

"Twist." I really thank you for listening again. I think I changed everything that you liked about it...lol.

"JR#97" - Yeah, snare and hat. I've got a few dobro licks tracked now. It'll be on the CD, if you want one.

Buffalo Bob - Your comment rules. I dig different. Some people around here actually think I'm "country?" WTF????????? Bahahaha.

Dres - had to tell you again that I've listened to your tune a lot today, and there is nothing that needs to be added. I"m posting that opinion here rather than there b/c nobody'll read it here. HEhehehe...don't wanna' stir the pot too much.

This IS the last one for awhile guys. Thanks for helping me out yet again.

bye.
Chris

Sounds great...but now you need some bass to go with those drums! Especially the double time...some bass should be moving through there...in the chorus.

Man this sounds great. Applause to both of you!

put you in a dress, and you're cher

...sort of... ... (uh... lame autotune joke...)

I like how you've brought up the vox; the BGVs sound excellent... the drums sound better than the ones you had on it last night...

I'm not sure about the fast shuffle-beat after 1:10... double time stuff... makes it sound like a country/ska hybrid... if you could take it down a smidge right there, or put some 'verb on it to set it back a touch it would unbusy everything... but it's really a matter of taste...

The mix is clean; leaves your other productions in the dust (to this point, anyway)...

You must have an L1 riding on top of the mix... either that, or you've really mastered jigsawing trax together...

Is that guit at 2:50 or so slightly out of tune?

Great toon... the hick side of my family would be screamin "yeee-haws!" like they did when those bands used to play at the end of old "Dukes of Hazzard" episodes ;)

See ya at the Boar's Nest :)

Holy Crap. I've "mastered" something. hahahahaha. Thanks, Chad. Didn't pull out any of the waves at all for this one, which probably explains why it sounds a lot cleaner.

Speaking of clean...HAVE YOU HEARD YOU????

SLuiCe - You're killing me. Quit listening. thank you very much. I'm done, I swear. Thank you VERY much

Hey Chris......
mm .....mmm. .........mmmmmmmmm......... great song that keeps getting better. Its alot of fun listening to this thing improve. I think Sluice nailed it w/ the bass in the Chorus comment. A nice walking bass line, picked in 1/8th notes would really make those drums sound good. I would even like to hear a 1/4 note kick drum during those.... just to really make that moving part move.

Your vocs are lush man. .......really beautiful. I didnt realize that Jamal did the bgv's on this......... damn fine work man!! .......all of the vocals in this are just excellent. ....autotune or not.

Great song Chris, I know ive already mentioned this but........... very, very nice songwriting man.

hey guernica...

VERY LITTLE of the back ground vox is actually me.....really its mostly chris i just added like 2 notes that i thought needed to be covered.....he needs the credit on that ..man ...not it...lol.

youre right tho ...excellent song.

I was thinking the same thing when I loaded the wave into Sonar. Average volume is really high. Made me want to know what you're doing to get there. Mine always come out so low.

I'm not going to comment on the mix since I'm part of the mix and that is typically the worst perspective for mixing.

Not going to comment on this wonderful song either since I basically wrote a book report in the post you deleted.

I will say that I like MMM's comment about maybe holding out on the double time until later. Maybe something else could be done with the first chorus? If you haven't already pressed this to CD I think it would be worth revisiting along with adding more of a walking bass.

'digital prelude' is your best song! nuff said..

the new version of old yellar is cool.. I like the double time, but I'm thinking maybe you should have redid the guitar so it sounds like your playing along with it, instead of along side it.. I dont know if that makes any sense.. I like the double time, but the guitar doesnt seem to be accenting it as much as it should..

About this auto- tune business.. IMHOP, you dont need it, and I dont know why you are using it.. It used to never bother me, but now I hear it being used in everything.. I think even when its used in a subtle way I can hear it, and I'm starting not to like it.. You have a great voice for this style and I never heard you have any pitch problems, so why use it? As an effect it's cool, (digital prelude,) but as part of the sound it isnt as cool.. All the best classic country albums were recorded without it..

I should know because I was force fed country music since I was a youngin'! My dad is fanatical about his Kenny Rogers, Charley Pride, Dolly Parton, Slim Whitman, Freddy Fender, etc..

Anyway, the drum additions were cool.. I would maybe just add another guitar that actually accents the double time..

and lay off the fuckin' auto-tune!! :D
