Now i'm freaking out.

Hi guys,

I'm full freaking out as i have just purchased an M-Audio firewire 410 off ebay from a U.S. seller and I'm in Australia.

Problem is I am being sent a U.S. version that runs 110V as opposed to a Euro version that runs 240V.

My question is.....
- is it a simple matter of just getting pin converted to change it to the Australian wall socket connector?

- or will i have buy the 240v version?

-or is it a simple matter of getting a different power pack?

- or am i stuck having to use it off bus power the whole time..... (I only have a 4 pin firewire connector on my laptop so i will have to get a 6 pin PCMCIA firewire card?

Any help is greatly appreciated as i have no idea where this leaves me

you just need an adapter mate. either get one from eBay? Any electrical goods shop... or you could even call M audio, explain that youve lost yours, and you need another one. they will send you one out.

What do you mean a pin converter or a voltage transformer?

is the cable built into the back of the 410? if so, you will need a voltage transformer. basically an adapter to fit on the end that will give it more V. Im sure they will sell them in electrical shops around you?

Take it in to them if you can and explain to the owner, he/she should know their stuff and sell you the right kinda adapter.

Nah it is just a pin connector...... i just need to make sure that 110v is running to the 410 that is all .....

I would think so mate yeah, why not send them a link to your unit and ask them if it will? They should be able to find out from the electrical spec?

It seems to me that all you need is a "wall wart" that takes in 240VAC and puts out 9VAC, 1000mA, having the correct connectors on both ends. I wouldn't mess with 240/120 converters except as a last resort.

So regardless of whether i am running 240v from the wall the wall wart will convert it to the 9 vac that i need?

So is true to say the only difference between the US version and the EURO version of the 410 firewire is the connector on the end of the power pack?

The wall wart is different. It has an input voltage of 240VAC instead of 110VAC. Other than that, the units should be identical.
