hey, just recorded this in the weekend with my band dryden... yep.. we are a pretty alternative hardcore band.. anyways just for the sake of interest (and im bored) ill tell you how we did it... we recorded onto a computer(which could only record two tracks simultaneuosly) by lining out from a behringer eurorack mx602a.. ( a pretty handy little 6 channel mixer ) we recorded drums first with:

shure sm 58 in bass drum... (i have a feeling this was a stupid idea?)
two behringer xm2000s overheads (left in left channel right in right)
one behringer xm2000s pointed at snare under the hihat....
and an akg of some sorts close to the top two toms...

then we did bass with one track lined out from the bass amp
and one track with the SM58 pointed at the bass amp
and the guitar in the same way too...

and vocals... just used the sm58

so anyway heres the address for an mp3 from these recordings i cant wait to hear your feedback, erm and also advice on maybe how to record better next time?

ah yes also we are not really satisfied with how the vocals sound... any suggestions?

I was imagining how bad this was gonna suck, soundwise, but you know...the first snare all by itself sounds just fine! The kick is still doable too. It gets lost in the mix itself, all the drums kinda do.

this isnt bad at all, and I bet some mixing could bring a bit more of it out.

I would:
ditch the line out track of guitar
slowly move a lopass filter down the frequency range on the guitar track till you hear it make a REALLY negative impact on the IMPORTANT part of the guitar sound
slowly move a hipass filter up the frequency range on the guitar track till you hear it make a REALLY negative impact on the IMPORTANT part of the guitar sound
line up the peaks in the bass mic vs bass di tracks better, and if that doesnt bring up the " presence" of the bass, then rerecord it

as for the vocals....nevermind :)

Those vocals scared the shit out of me.Sounds a lot like a legend from these parts by the name of "Pootpie".

is that a chick??

have you ever heard of the band 'melt banana'?

i'm kind of scared

interesting vocals.. the bass is too loud, and the guitar sound isn't the best, but the rage certainly comes through..

Hmm... ok. The guitar tone is horrible. Do something about that. The drums ain't the biggest problem, but I guess they could be a bit more clear. The vocals kinda itch my head. I'm not so sure about the rage coming across here, but maybe I'm not listening loud enough. Ok, listened louder... the vocals are too quiet, but I guess it's because they sound... very unique (horrible to my ears). You could improve a lot here by doing some EQ stuff here and there. Especially on the guitar. The song composition sounds very basic, but I guess it's fitting. Didn't like the song, but I don't listen to this type of stuff myself anyway. (what is this type of stuff anyway?)
