everytime i record guitar s they dont sound cutting and bright enough...im using a carr slant v amp...a royer ribbon mic and a rode nt2 mike about 4 inches or so of the cab running through a neve mic pre (flat)...any sugges...

add a MD421 or e609S to the Royer... dial in the tone whilst listening with head phones... forget what the amp sounds like in the room...

I agree, put a dynamic mic right up on the center of the cone. Combine that with either the ribbon or the condensor a little further away, and then tweak everything around with some headphones on.

I say just use the dynamic right in the center of the cone.

Check the eq on the guitar and any outboard eq. If there's intentional distortion, you might want to clean up your distortion, also. Sometimes less distortion gives you more cut.
