I have a problem with my Mackie 1402 VLZ mixer. I can hear a lot of noise wen I push down the main mix knob on the master section. I can hear this in my recordings too. It is audible when I have no hardware connected to the mixer. The noise volume is really low when I solo a channel though. Soloing more channels brings up the noise, but the sound from my synths is loud then when I play something, so I guess that's normal.

Does someone know how I can solve this? The main mix knob is the only knob I have pushed in at the master section. Should I use another setting on my mixer?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I'm wondering i fyou set your levels correctly. You probably already know this but,
1. Always set the channel fader to unity.
2. Then, set your level to tape with the Trim knobs

Sorry if this old news to you.

Thanks for your advice, but this isn't the problem, because I've already set them up correctly.

Is the outlet the mixer is hooked up on properly grounded?.....

Are you sure?

Your switch or pot may have a faulty connection (loose wire, dirt buildup, etc.). Try cleaning with a reliable contact cleaner and see if this wil eliminate thie noise. If not, you might have to take a look at the circuit connected to the main mix to determine if there is some sort of loose connection!

Good luck!

Thanks for your help everybody, but I have contacted the shop where I bought the mixer, and they adviced me to come by. I hope they have some ideas for a solution also.

Thanks.
