next purchase ?????

I am ready to spend a little money (aprox $200) I don't have much so I don't want to waste it, or spend it in the wrong place.
I was thinking about the vtb-1 mic pre. Is there a better place for me to put my money? I record mainly vocals, keyboard, acoustic guitar.

Here is what I have so far.
1. n-track
2. proto-j monitors
3. pretty good room (its small so I made it pretty dead)
4. Aark 24/96 sound card
5. 1 - SP C-1 mic
6. 2 - Shure beta 87-A mics
7. 1 - sm-57
8. 1 - AKG D 1000E mic

Do you think the vtb-1 pre would be a pretty good step up over the built in 24/96 pres?

Maybe/maybe not. Probably marginal at best.

You could probably use some small-diaphragm condensers. Anyone who records any kind of accoustic instruments at all needs to have a pair. I'd say a couple of Oktava mc012's and/or Marshall mxl 603's would look really nice in your mic locker. Worry about the pres later.
