Thought I'd repost here.

I have a AT3035 mic. Using Sonar 5 and Tascam 1082 interface.
I set mic up with Tascam Phantom power. With fader pushed to top, I Can't get a level above -15. And thats screaming with lips on mic. change the mic setting pad from -10db to db. I get a little more. I have to turn all other instruments down to hear any vocal. So doing soft vocals is out. To hear anything I have to trim all the way afterword, and then theres a slight hiss. I have to be doing something wrong. Getting the level near the red zone let alone in it is impossible. Why is the signal so weak? Thanks

Aren´t you using line-level inputs?
You probably need some preamplifier.

Are you singing into the side of the mic with the switches? That is the wrong side. I just got bought this mic the other day and plugged it into my Firepod and there was plenty of gain. I can't imagine the built in preamps on your Tascam are that weak.

Boy am I dumb. I was. That did help but still no real power. I have to still turn down other instruments to even it up. I wouldnt think I need a pre amp for this. Going to call tascam in morning. Maybe I'm doing something else wrong.

Test the mic somewhere else, the tascam shouldn't be the problem if it's the same way on all of the Preamp channels.
