Thoughts as I listen... I like the acoustic and elec guitar sounds, the electric guitar passage :36-44, especially the arpeggio at :41 (and later), the harmonic progressions, the vocal sound. The lyric at 1:55, “to stay here with me” for me is the pivotal moment in the song. And the song is quite beautiful. The snare at 2:06-30 is too loud, and there are a few phrases later in the song that are repetitive and could be edited out to increase impact. I wish the bass gtr had a little more definition in its articulation. The mix sounds well balanced. This song would be perfect for Leland Sklar to play bass on.

Digging it. The relative levels are great. Maybe just a few tweaks necessary... a little more vocal sweetening (minor tweaks to timing, tiny shelf EQ boost on vocal highs). Maybe consider a small reverb send as track glue and/or mix buss compression (the smallest amount). Really this is just about tweaks.

The snare drum sound @2:20 is interesting by itself--it's almost like a solo instrument there. When the fuller arrangement comes back, it sits just fine.

Nice work!

I thought this sounded really good. Great tone on everything.

I think the acoustic guitar is getting crowded out of the mix. The vocal is masking it mostly.

OK the vocal has a bit of a harsh sound to it. Maybe notch out something in the 2400hz - 2700hz range.

That's about it. Overall I thought it sounded very good.

I agree with TripleM that the acoustic guitar is getting crowded out, maybe a slight cut of mids and a little more volume would help it. Nt a fan of that loud reverby snare sound when it comes in by itself. When the music kicks up and it becomes part of the overall drum kit sound, its still a little loud, but fits better.

Critiquing? Sure. I'll critique. I hate these situations where I hear the tune where I'd like to play on it but I know I wouldn't have done a better job than I'm listening to.

It's a beautiful song man. Great recording and mix of it too. if I had to come up with a nit I guess I would like the vocal a little less dry. I like a little more verb on songs in this style. Sounds great as is and that nit is just personal preference.
Man, you're putting up one great tune after another and I look forward to your songs.
Keep up the good work!

Agree its a beautiful song. I wish there was more of that intro elec riff. Not sure I like the sound of the acoustic. It sounds plain and dry. I would think maybe doubling it would sound good. Vocals sound good, nice voice..I am jealous.

I really don't like that snare that comes in. Personal thing I know...when it plays ghost notes, its sounds great, but by itself it sounds too distracting to me...but maybe it's just too loud?

Regardless, man this is a really nice song! Great job.

Sorry for the delayed response y'all --- been tied up with several other things lately:

XLR: Thanks for the listen and comments. I tend to agree with you on the snare as well. I've heard the name Leland Sklar before, but I'm not familiar with his work. Big session guy, huh? Cool!

participant: Thanks much for the suggestions. Some good ideas in there.

TripleM: There was debate in the band over the level of the acoustic. I kind of tended to want to bring it up, but the others thought it was great a little beneath everything. Thanks for having my back on that. :)

mjbphotos: Thanks for the comments! That snare drum is becoming quite the troublemaker. :)

dobro: :) Thanks for the listen. I had to consciously not overplay on this one.

jimistone: Thanks very much. All these recent tunes are from my first real "album" (still self-released, but the first thing I've felt confident releasing as a body of work), so they represent the best of what I've got thus far. ;)

Bruthish: Thanks a lot for the listen and comments. That's one more vote for the execution of the snare. :) Heheh ... I'll have some good ammunition to show the drummer.
