Hey guys, I'm thinking it's time to upgrade monitors. I'm looking to spend $500ish on used actives. What do you suggest?

Be very careful buying used monitors.

Make sure you can listen to them at a variety of volumes, that they're closely level-matched and that they're in good cosmetic shape.

There ARE good used monitors out there to be had, but there are an equal number of 'wash 'em down good and sell them to a sucker' types who you need to beware of.

The one thing you more or less need to resign yourself to is that your first choice monitor may or may not be available at the time you've decided to buy.

Yeah, I was planning on having a list of 3 or 4 to look for.

I was looking hard at the Blue Sky Media Desk 2.1's which are $500 and have a good buzz about them, but I let my G.A.S. overcome me and I bought a pair of Tascam VL-X5's (used) for $200 and am going to buy a similarly priced set of headphones. I live in an apartment so I end up mixing through cans almost as much as monitors, so I figure it's about time I had a decent set.
