I'm completely new to Pro Tools, I did some recording on cubase a year or so ago, so I have some knowledge in home recording, but I'm not fully 'in the know'.

However, I really want to get back into it, so I went and brought Pro Tools 8 with MBox Mini2, along with a SE X1 Microphone.

I'm on pro tools, and I can't get a signal through on the Mic. (I have taken it too an old friend to check my equipment works, he got it all working, but I must be stupid because I can't get it working when I'm back at home).

I plug it in, turn my levels up, click the DI/phantom power, open a new track (Track - Mono - Audio Track - Samples) but still no signal. Am I missing something?

I go to record to see if its picks up any audio, but I click record on the track, then the record on the main board and it just flashes and doesn't record?

Its probably something really stupid, but I'm really confused.
I've checked my inputs and outputs, input 1 to output L/R etc

Can anybody help me?

Is there a monitor button in pro tools that you need to turn on?

I go to record to see if its picks up any audio,
If you press record on the track, can you then see the meters moving when you speak into the mic?
If not, you may have selected the wrong input number, or the IO (setup/IO) needs to be reset.

You need to do three things to record
Record arm the track(s)
Press the transport record button
Press the transport play button

If you didn't press play, then it'll just sit and flash red all day.

Meters are not moving when armed/pressing record on the track and speaking into the mic.
Re-set my settings, and as far as I know I'm not selecting the wrong input number.

No idea what I'm doing wrong now.

Phantom power!

Vickii -- Is phantom power to the mic switched on? -- DHubley

Found the problem.

The Mic/DI button gave incorrect instruction on the Mbox booklet.

OUT was Mic.
IN was DI.

Amateur mistake.

With the Mic/DI button out, and the phantom power on, it seems to all be working fine.

Thanks for the help guys!
