i have a Creative awe64 soundcard.i know its a cheepy for recording live.the process and result is not good.so far, it's been a pain with n-track.

what is the next step up(full duplex wise)in the $49-$100
range.i know it won't be 24 bit. but i need one good enough for my singing/songwriting multi-tracking approach---would be good.

You may want to think about upgrading to the newest Creative cards. You can get an original Live Platinum pretty cheaply these days as Creative have scrapped it in favor of the 5.1 surround version with remote. It'll give you true MIDI in and out (no more joystick port!) as well as front panel access to 1/4" line in and s/pdif i/o and 48 Khz recording fidelity. It's not a bad card for the price. I got mine at CompUSA for around $99.99.

Of course, if you don't need the Live Drive thingy, you can pick up the Live MP3+ 5.1 for around $100 as well. Same card, just different software bundle and no front drive bay access.

The Ensoniq Audio PCI card runs about $35 and gives 16 bit about 90 dB headroom.
