I have a BR8 and use an AKG C1000S. I play fairly quiet fingerstyle guitar in CGDGAD. Martin D-18 w/ ivory. All I want is a clear piano like sound. Basically, what I sound like live. I don't want to sound like I'm up against a wall, but want that "distance" feel with no boom. Do they call it "air"? Anyway, I have an audio Technica condensor on the way, too.

Sometimes I sound too boomy in the recording. Anybody been there who can give me some tips? I've been to two studios and I cannot get "crisp" recordings. How does Phil Keaggy get that clear, live sound? Thanks.

Without getting into the whole C1000 controversy (do a search for C1000 if you want to get the general consensus on that mic. Hint: it's not positive), it sounds like your main problem is positioning. If your mic is aimed anywhere around the sound hole you are going to get a lot of boom. Try aiming around the 12th-13th fret instead.

If your room isn't awful, try some stereo micing techniques at a little more of a distance for a more open natural sound. (Of course, you would need two mics for that - so as long as you are buying mics, why don't you try anything else besides the C1000!)
