ok guys, i see most of you guys here realy know your mics.
i dont spend much time in the mic section and i realy dont own to many mics.
what i need is a decent budget minded mic kit that will allow my band to record our drums. we will be running into a pc with sonar 2.0 xl into a ardvark q10.
i always see all the kits at guitar center from shure and many other companys.
but i have always gotten good info from this forum and would like some input from the pros if possible.
we have talked about just buying a electric drum set and being that my drummer has only played for a year he doesnt oppose the idea but i happen to know that a good micd acoustic set is best.
thanks ahead of time guys. probably looking to spend around 500-600 bucks maybe a little more if the quality is there. thanks and god bless, oh we play christian metal so we need that realy punchy kick drum sound.

oh i forgott to mention the mics will need to serve a dual purpose for recording/to live performance. i dont know if that is even possible? thanks. god bless tim pate

The classic response would be

Pair of MXL603S: $200 for a FMSP
Audio-Technica ATM25: $140
Shure SM57: $80

That should come to about $420.

for recording i always reccommend the:

Marshall MXL603's - overhead ($150)
Shure SM57 - snare ($79)
AT ATMPRO25 - kick ($79)

for live, it depends on the size of the venue, but id add a sm57 to each tom for sure and bring the overheads a little closer in since you arent relying on them to pick up the toms......if the overheads arent picking up the hi-hat well enuff, mic it also.....
