i a'm starting to think about what will my studio have when i'm old enough to get a job. here's my system plan:

source(mics)---------mixer(ch)--------adat(24-tr)-------mixer(track)--
then i insert compressers and limiters on the inserts.

how does this look?

?? Yeah, that looks ... OK.
But technology changes so fast that in 5 years 24 tracks of ADAT may be about as useful as tits on a boar hog.

If you want to start planning now, and building for the future, then try to put your money into items that hold their value over long periods of time.

I've already seen ADAT's go through 3 generations. (The 16 bit "black face", the "XT" and the "LT".) And that's been in a relatively short period of time.

im 14 i have a job. Whats stopping you know? I would scrap the adats and look into getting something like 24 track digital recorder like the mackie SDR24/96 or something. That will give you better quality and won't cost that much more than 3 ADAT's

In 5 yrs all recording will be done through rectal contact mics. They will be a little cumbersome for the first few years so you might want to start stretching out now in preparation.

you know what would be cool? if you could do a DI of your voice instead of having to mic it.

I would think most decent studios in the future will resemble the computer based ones nowadays. Mics, etc should always be decent purchases anytime.

sheesh that is the funniest thing I've ever read on the net...

I'm still laughing... what would you suggest stretching with???

That a personal issue that everyone must decide on their own.

DI RECORDING OF VOCALS ? COOL!

ANYWAY I THINK THAT I WILL JUST BUY ME A DAW LIKE THE ROLAND VS2480CD OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT BECASE THEY HAVE EVERY THING THAT YOU NEED. I PRICED THE VS2480CD AT $3,299. IN ORDER TO BUY A ADAT SETUP WITH ALL THAT STUFF WOULD COST OVER 5-$6000. AND I WOULD GET A JOB, BUT I WOULD HAVE NO WAY TO GET THERE.

I WONDER HOW MUCH RECORDING WILL CHANGE IN 5 YEARS?

MABYE.......

A DAW SYSTEM THAT CAN BE WORN AS A WATCH?????

for that kind of money I think you should look into a Radar recording system.

You seem to be into rock music Zeke. i would say the things that could be a lasting investment for you would be

Analog mixing board
Mics
Preamps (maybe in a board)...

as far as digital stuff, right now Radar24 is reasonably priced and on top.

In 2007, maybe it will still be them, who knows. Stuff will be much better.

your quest

The Roland VS series are a killer way to acquaint begginners like yourself with stand alone hard disk recording and editing, they are alot more simplified and comprehensive than linking tape machines with mixers, with effects units, with mic pre-amps, and compressors, and by the way I worked to aquire all 55000 dollars worth of my own gear before I was 17, that you can't get a job because you can't get there sounds like some crock of shit you tell your mom to me champ. I was working full time when I was 14 in the summers and so was every one I've ever met, fatty.
