i'm getting a lot of presence, if that is the right word, from my mxl v6. should i track with the lows cut or cut the lows during mixng?
what else would be a good technique to deal with this?

thank you.

v67 ?....are you meaning proximity effect?.....

how far away from the mic are you and how do you have it positioned in relation to your mouth?......

mxl v67

sorry about that. i for got the 7. i have to admit that i was testing the mxl v67 out pretty close. the meter is peaked out on the mixer, which brings me to this question. at which part in the chain should i adjust the input volume?
example,
mixer
1.level knob
2.low, mid, high eq knobs
3.gain knob
4.main mix knob
5.phones(my output to the soundcard via 1/4inch adapter)knob
6.soundcard's(analog in from the mixer)virtual slider

that is the order of the signal flow. i once read that you want to keep as much of the signal information as possible, but due to the distortion which knob in the signal flow would i have to cut back on, yet, retaining optimum quality?

first of all back off from the mic abit...no closer than 3 to 6 inches and use a screen......this mic has a decent proximity effect....then use a low cut filter when tracking.....do those 2 and see where you stand and we'll see where to go from there.....

that worked really well, i guess that should have been a no brainer. thanx for the advice.
