the mxl v63m...

is that soely a vox mic? or do you think it could be used with things like...

drum overhead? v63m vs. mxl603s?
guitar close micing? v63m vs. sm57?
guitar far micing? v63m vs. mxl603s?
acoustic guitar? v63m, mxl603s (i have 2 603s, so i could do some combo micing on stuff here too...)?

also, I know that pointing the v63m a different way makes a hugely different sound. How should i point it for all of those above situations? (top of the mic, front side, back side...)?

thanks.ha

I have a V63M that I have used mainly for vocals. It's not a bad mic. It has a fairly warm sound. My only complaint is that it seems to crap out fairly easily if you get too close. A pop filter is a must. I've also gotten some pretty good distorted guitar sounds with it from 1-3 feet in front of the amp. I haven't used it on acoustic. As far as which way to point it, it's cadioid, so you want to address it from the front.

v63

I had a v63 for a while. I couldn't get the vocal sound I wanted with it. A little sibilant and muddy at the same time. (what a friend of mine calls the boom/sizzle frequency response) Since I had bought it with vocals in mind I traded it in on an AT3035. However, I found it to have a pretty good, full bodied sound on acoustic guitar. But my need was for a vocal mic. So try it on acoustic, I think you'll like the results.
