Multitrack software advice

Here's my situation: currently, the extent of my recording needs is taking my Creative Nomad Jukebox to rehearsals and recording them, then editing the resulting mp3s to make rough but presentable demos. I've had decent results with GoldWave, and am considering shelling out the money for a license.

However, I would like to scale up to computer-based multitrack capabilities down the road. I like the look of n-track: I think it would suit my needs for as far as I can see. As with GoldWave, the price is right.

With this in mind, I have a few questions for anyone experienced with these -- or other similar -- programs:

1. Does n-track have editing capabilities comparable to GoldWave (i.e., does n-track make GW redundant)?

2. I've looked at Cool Edit: Cool Edit 2000 seems to be more or less a GW competitor, with the upgrade path to Cool Edit Pro. Would the premium I'd pay for Cool Edit pro get me much over and above the GW/n-track combo (or just n-track, assuming yes to #1)?

3. How does Multiquence fit into this picture?

4. Any thoughts on other similar programs?

Note: money is an ENORMOUS constraint these days, as if that weren't obvious.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

N-Track isnt very good as an editor so you can use Goldwave in conjunction with it.....i use the combination myself and it works ok......

Cool Edit Pro is a good program......Ive played around with the demo but it doesnt really do anything more than N-Track that I need to justify the $$$$......

I havent used Multiquence so i cant comment there...im gonna guess N-Track has alot more features just from looking at it......
