I need a simple way to convert MP3 files into WAV files so that I can edit them?

also is there a way to use sound editing software with MP3 files directly?

SoundForge will edit MP3s directly and convert them to/from WAV

If you want a cheap (free) and very simple way to convert MP3 to wav, most mp3 playing software will do it. Winamp does for sure.
