So... a friend sold me an original MOTU 828 because he was buying an 828 MKIII for his home studio. It was working GREAT for me in Windows 7 (x64)... until I left it on one evening overnight and the next morning, it would not turn on at all.
I discovered, after getting all the screws off and looking inside... that the fuse had blown. Now... the fuse was rated for 125 mA. It was 9:30pm on a Friday evening, and I had a song idea burning in my head.
I went to Home Depot and they had fuses which were the same size but rated for a much higher load -- 500 mA.
I tried the 500 mA fuse and the MOTU 828 worked for a few more days. Now, it turns on, does the "LED dance", and then stops and only the 48k light is illuminated. I connect the Firewire cable from it to my PC (I've tried EVERY Firewire port on my PC) and it is not recognized. I checked Device Manager and the Firewire interface card is reporting as working properly.
It started working again after multiple reboots... and then stopped again a few hours later. Same as earlier - turns on OK, does the "LED dance", then stops and only illuminates the 48k light, not recognized when connected to my computer.
I even took it to a friend's house and tried it on another computer with Firewire ports - no dice.
So........ I'm looking for an external audio interface that can support one (maybe 2) Neutrix inputs... either Firewire or USB 3.0. Any suggestions?
Any suggestions on fixing my MOTU 828 would be gladly accepted as well...
