mixer and soundcard???

ok...im gonna be setting up my home studio soon and still have a few questions...

when a mixer has buses and all that, are those like groupings for sets of channels?

so i can have the toms on mixer channels ?-? and then bus them from one output to 1 input on the soundcard?? same with cymbals etc....

or can i run like the direct out for that channel to the soundcard? will the channel be eq'd still?

i plan on getting an aardvark direct q10 to run it all into the comp..

Yes...

Yes... You can even route the bus to some external processor (Comp, eq, etc) and back to mixer.

If your mixer has direct out plug on the channels, then yes, you can do that...

You mean EQ on the channel of your mixer, then no. Direct out tends to route the signal directly out. You have to route from the bus (or whatever except the direct out) to achieve the on board eq work on channels...

That one varies a bit. A lot of boards have the Insert Send pre EQ and the Direct Out post EQ.

If you're getting the Q-10, you'll have built-in pre's negating the need for a mixer altogether, unless your mixer has better pre's or unless the Q-10 doesn't have phantom power for condensers (I'm not sure if it does or not).

If you already have an excellent mixer with direct outs, you might want to research other cards. You could save money and/or get an even better package. (not that the Q-10 isn't a nice package).
