Hi folks,
This was the first song that i recorded when i got my gear last year. ........I like the song, but hate the mix. It's in line to be completely redone. A friend has offered to put down some live drums for this so im gonna redo it from scratch. Feel free to slam away. Ive listened this to death, so Im hoping fresh ears will bring out things that im overseeing.

This is Really top quality already....covers alot of sonic ground and is a pleasant listen. If you are hell bent on a redo from scratch..........don't screw it up!

Shit man,this is one hell of a tune.The mix doesnt bother me at all.The song is good enough to carry it man...just like all the songs from the 70's.....they were sub par as far as todays standards go but the songs were so damn good it didnt matter......I'll take content over mix quality any day......this has a santana'ish feel to it at times and a straight ahead rock feel at the solo at the 3:10 mark.....you're almost getting the guitar tone on that Solo that Blackfoot made Famous.

This rocks man.....one of the best tunes Ive heard here in awhile.

Are you playing everything?
 
I don't wanna' mess this thread up by using a bunch of foul language, but HOLY SHIT!!! Man, I had no idea you could sing like this. That's....that's...wow....GREAT!

The snare sounds like fake dogshit at the beginning, but then I forgot all about it. Nice lead tone.

Man, I've only heard one other tune from you (and Lt. Bob), and it was great, but it didn't give me a clue as to your vocal prowess.

No more cursing...this is beautiful and great and needs all kinds of stars and stuff. I hate gushing.

I just listened thru 3 times and nothing stuck out at me....id have to really listen hard to find something wrong....WOW!

I actually have something to add... My wife thinks your voice sounds like....hehehehehe....(get this).... OZZY!

But I think I know what she's talking about...it's the effect on them, especially the background vox. You're using a flange every once in awhile, but what's the rest of the effect? Chorus??? Settings please. I rarely ask gear questions, but this is so good on my system, that I wanna' know EXACTLY how you recorded stuff.

ESPECIALLY THE ACOUSTICS!!!

God, this is really good.

So, you're on the west coast, right? Please tell me you're doing something positive with your geographic location...like playing music for a living...not a telemarketer, etc.

This is a fine bit of drum programming dude! I can hear some Carter Beauford influencing your sound and rhythm choices. Kinda Dave Matthews Meets Santana goin on with the guitar parts.

You write SO well, I've never heard a klunker from you. Can't WAIT to hear the re-record!!

Plus I'd kill for your voice, dammit.

Jamal Hey bro, thank for the kind words....Yeah, im playing everything, so unfortunately i have noone else to blame. The drums are a DR770. .......and your song is gonna do just fine......cause it smokes! :)btw....your eyes didnt fail ya man..... I forgot to put up the link:D

ChrisHarris Thanks man:D I hate the vocs on this. Yeah, there's some flange in there..... the result of an experiment gone awry. .....no chorus though. Youre probably hearing some manual doubling that i didnt nail tight enough. When i recorded this I was just shitting my pants playin w/ all the new goodies..... so i got in a hurry. I dont remember the exact recording details..... I know that the vocs were a "shitty" dynamic mic into a dbx mini-pre.....and the ac. guit. was one channel direct w/ some chorus and verb, and another channel w/ the cheap dynamic and some verb.......... the rest is kinda fuzzy..........
Naa, I dont gig anymore. .....I hit it real hard for about 15 years and burned myself out. I moved down here at 18 to be a rock star and ended up a contractor. ....Im just a happy has-been.:)

jcmm sorry about the file size bro.... I get the Santana feel too. I really dig the latin stuff. JMarcomb is always a nice listen when he posts. I hear you regarding screwing up the remake............ :( .........wouldnt be the first time. thank a bunch for the kind words man.

Kramer My bro...... thanks for the nice words. ...yeah, thats me creating all of the damage. I fully agree with ya regarding songs. I know that i rushed through this one though, so i owe it to myself to try and polish it up a little more. ....the performances could be a little tighter... the mix could be alot better........ I have a better selection of sounds now...... etc., etc.

well, i have to say that might be the best sounding di acoustic i've ever heard.......i usually hate di acoustic but if all of them sounded like this, i don't think i'd care..........good song too....no mix suggestions, sounds pretty sweet to me......

Do not trash talk your voice. I would pay some serious money to someone if they could give me a voice like that. Very nice, man I hear something like that and it makes me want to hibernate in my "special little room" for some serious time and try to create something I could be proud of. Thanks for the inspiration. I would love to hear you sing when YOU think your on.

Very nice guitar playing and the vocals are excellent on this, whether you think so or not! :)

I like the drumming on this, but for some reason I'm hearing some kind of latin beat behind it in my head -- lol

The mix doesn't sound bad over here in lo-fi.

This is a really good song with some strong writing behind it. I like your arrangement. If you do re-record it, you may just want to tweak it, but the way it is recorded here sounds really great as is...Of course, usually we are more hard on ourselves (I know I am) when it comes to this stuff, especially since you listen to it to death...by doing so you start noticing things that nobody else would notice (because you listen to your own stuff differently and more critically)...This sounds really great!

The only thing I heard was the break from 2:07 to2:44 was a little long.
The writing is just great!

very good production IMHO ... I can see why you would want to redo it ... but it's very solid as it is ... I realy didn't like those symbals :) ... if you just redo it with better sounds for drums and acc gtr it would be great ....
