I've got an old Dell P2 233mhz that I'm replacing. It's got 192 RAM and a 6 gig hard drive. I'm thinking of sticking it in my basement and dedicating it to recording, if it will work. It exceeds all the minimum system requirements for Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 except HS requires 300mhz.

First, does anybody know of any decent recording and mixing software that will run WELL on a P2 233? Or is there a way to inexpensively upgrade the CPU? (Keep in mind, my computer tech skills are limited to installing RAM and Zip drives.)

The obvious question is why not just record on the new computer. I may, but it won't be as secluded and sound controlled as a basement studio.

Second, I've heard that HS 2002 is a stripped down version of Sonar. If that's true, what can't it do that Sonar can?
