I have a simple question, although it seems difficult to find information on this particular topic. I'm just curious about which models of the Lowrey organ Mike Ratledge used on Soft Machine albums: self-titled/Volume One, Third (especially Moon in June), and Fourth.

I've searched on Google and have come up with the Lowrey Holiday Deluxe, which was supposedly his second organ (after a Vox Continental). But I assume that he had other orgrans after that.

Any info would be appreciated.

Are you sure it was a Lowrey because they are mostly used as home (adult lesson) organs not a professional brand.

He played Lowrey organs for sure. He's known for playing Lowrey organs through a fuzz pedal/box.

Great Question. I think it's one that can only Finitely be answered by Mike. My experience, working in various music shops is the following --
Mike played a Vox Continental with the Daevid Allen Trio (as the Fourth member).
In 1966, he purchased a 1961 Lowrey Holiday Deluxe Tube Organ. He wanted a Hammond, but could not even afford a USED Hammond, at that time, much less a New Lowry. This was used on both the Gomelsky recordings (with Daevid Allen) and The Soft Machine's 1 & Soft Machine Vol 2. Ratledge STAYED with the Lowry, throughout his tenure with SM. However, he MAY have upgraded to a later year & or Model. The way to distinguish later 60s Lowrys, are that 1961-64, have the Square-Edges and the 1965-1968 (like my personal Holiday Model) have the "slanted" sides, for the Roll-Top. Wonderful sound, though of course not as "bassy" as the Hammnond B3 & C3s. Great Question !! I noticed it is dated 2006 -- If you have found evidence to the contrary and you see my reply -- I would greatly appreciate any corrections. Take care :)
