Hey folks, I´m about to start recording our second album with my band. Well We've recorded drums yet, as well as bass guitar. But I've got a question here. I'm about to record acoustic guitars. The ones we owe are a Fender Stratoacoustic and a Ovation Cellebration (both electroacoustic guitars). The thing is: how to record them proffesionally, having a good punch out of them?.

We owe two SMs 57 and two SMs 58, but I don't know how to place them correctly to get a beautiful sound. What I wanted to do was plug the guitar on a Fender Deluxe, Mik the amp, then connect the amp (through the pre out) to the mixer and have two channels of recording for a single guitar, perhaps 4 channels if I get to use four mics.

I do not know if it is a good idea to place some mics in front of the guitar..I mean, what to doooooooo?...

Thankssss for your help and time...

purchasing a decent SD condenser would give you a considerably sweet sound. Something like the ecm8000 or mxl603 in combo with the 57 is what many people do here. The ecm8000 is only $40 and it works wonders on drum OH's. If you're not looking to buy anything, try the mics you have, one at the 12th fret and one near the bridge but pointed away from the hole to avoid boominess, or put the bridge mic above the right shoulder (assuming right handed guitarist) pointing down towards the sound hole. Also...do a search on the topic, as you will find many similar techniques, but in greater detail.

Hope this helps,
Brandon
