Micing Problems

Hey guys

I bought a Shure SM57 and an Alesis MUltimix USB 8 to use as an interface. When I plug in the shure through an xlr cable. the signal LEDs on the mixer do not pick up a signal, even with the gain on full. What is going on here?

I have tried the line in ports with a guitar and that works fine! It just seems that the xlr ports don't want to work!

Any suggestions?

Bad cable or loose wiring in the 57.

Yeah, that's what it seems to be. Taken it to a music tech guy for a rewiring. Never buy microphones on gumtree from a shady businessman!
