Since my e-602 has stopped to work, how do you think I can mic the drums without a dedicated mic for the kick?
I have 2 sm 57
2 sm 58
and a AT4040
I'm thinking about trying this:
snare with sm57
Tom bass with sm 58 (without the ball screen)
the other 58 between the toms medium and high
and the sm 57 in the drum kick.
The at4040 like overhead.
Let me know what do you think about this...

That sounds pretty safe. Depending on the song, I can think of instances that might sound better with the 4040 mic'ing the kick (don't place it all the way in, though) and the others up top since you don't have a matched pair. I did this last week (used a regular kick mic, but didn't use OH's), and it sounded great. The dyanmics on the snare/toms picked up just the right amount of cymbals. Depends on the song, though.

You could also try the 4040 further out in front of the kit, a 57 on snare, and the 58's as OH's. Any kind of combination could work, just think about how you want the drums to sound for the song.
