Hey the mic's i'm planning on buying soon are the mxl67, sm57, and mxl603's for overheads.....i'll be recording some hard rock. Do i need any preamps for these? If so, which ones? Please mention ones below the $200 range....if any are good in that range.

they all need preamps...the mxl ones also need phantom power......how many channels of preamps do you need for the $200?.....in other words, how many mics will you be using simultaneously?....

If 3 is the Max, you can get a Delta Audio Buddy (2 ch) and a Studio Projects VTB-1 (1 ch)....should be around $200 for the 2..

Unpopular!

The blue tube is not known as a great pre - you can do a lot better for the $ if most here are to be believed.

You might consider a used mixer...

....just a thought.....

but most mixers have mic pres and many have phantom power also.

I imagine for around $200 you are proably only gonna get 4 channels and so/so pres......but you also get a mixer.
