So....i've run into some problems. Here's what I have. Macbook Pro, M Powered Pro Tools, Firewire 1814 interface, G Drive external harddrive (250mb).

After hooking up my external hard drive, I moved all of the music files from the Mac to the external hard drive to save them. Now, when I open those files on the ext drive, there is no audio. All of the tracks, the settings, etc are there, but it says the audio is missing. When it tries to retrieve them it says it wasn't found. The interesting thing is, is that before I deleted the files off of the Mac, I went in and made sure I could open them from the ext drive. Now they aren't there. Anyone know what's going on? Oh...I just bought a firewire hub thinking that might help, but it didnt. Thanks!

First, in the future use PT's "Save Copy" or such to save a copy of your session on the external drive and INCLUDE all the files- its a check box at the bottom of the dialog box. That way it creates a copy session with references to all the new files in their happy new home.

For now... are the files still there on the ext. drive?

Load the session in PT and when it compains about missing files select "reconnect manually" and go find each file one at a time. Pain in the you-know-what but it always works if the files are still there.

I gave that a shot, although probably didn't search enough. I guess I'm not sure where each individual audio file would be located and/or what it would be named.

Whenever you create a session Pro Tools creates a folder with the name and inside that folder puts the session file, an audio folder and a fades folder. Whenever moving stuff around it's a good habit to make sure ALL these files/folders stay together. Easiest way to do that is just move the entire folder that everything is in (the first folder PT creates).

When you open the session and PT gives you that error, choose Manually Link. Remove check marks from all drives that you know for sure DO NOT contain the audio files...hopefully just your external drive should be checked.
Under "Select Files to Relink" you should see all the missing files. Shift Select all of them so they are all highlighted.
Click on Find Links up top and click okay.

If you get little orange chain links next to each one press on Commit Links and click Yes.

What happens?
If it works and the regions/files are relinked...do a SAVE SESSION COPY IN and choose all audio files. This way if all your audio files are spread out across the drives, they are copied to one folder.
