Hi,
I'm going to record a jazz trio (jazz guitar through fender twin, double bass, jazz drums)they all going to play together in the same room (ca, 5mx6mx4mhigh)I thought of using a pair of beyer m160 ribbon mics as the room mics, does it make sence? dod anyone here recorded with them like that before? any other expirience with ribbons as oh/room mics?
thanx

ps
the preamp will be either my desc pres (a very nice studiotracs cp6800) or spl goldmike (try these if you never heard about them before) bothe of these pres can bring clean 60db into the picture... :)

They'd be very cool as overheads or even tight on the guitar amp. Personally, I'd go with condensors as room mics to capture the subtle details that a jazz trio is sure to generate. JMHO, YMMV.

I don't think the M160s have the clarity and presence needed to make them very useful as room mics....... they are very "warm" sounding"
