Has anyone had experience using the BAGGS mic, pickup and preamp combination such as the DUAL SOURCE directly into soundcards? Will it work, and if not what else do I need to get good sound to my recording program?
I have the Baggs Dual Source--the ribbon pickup and the condenser mic--along with the built in preamp. Although I have not tried it, I would think it would have enough output from the preamp to go into your soundcard.
I ended up buying a Baggs Para Acoustic D.I. preamp though, which I used for live work and occasionally in the studio. It has great EQ and an FX loop, which is kind of handy. I prefer, by far, to mic the acoustic rathr than use the pickup system for recording. Once in a while, I will mix a condenser mic with the transducer in the guitar--sometimes its a nice combo.
Did you get the internal condenser mic with your Baggs? I did and I found it fairly useless. I didn't like the sound of it for live or recording.
If You can't get enough level from your Baggs preamp, you will need to get some kind of external preamp--whether a stand alone unit or a channel of a mixer. Try it without one irst and see how it works for your applications.
