when i record... a direct in guitar .. or actually almost anything.... i have to max the levels on my mixer .. hte main levels and the individual track levels... is this normal.... wat do u guys usually have ur levels at? if i dont max em... i get no sound or waves on CEP...its a behr. mixer... and when i turn it up all the way.. i get sonud... but i find that a hiss also comes with it whren i turn up... but hissy sound is better than nothing i guess

Is your line-in level on the windows mixer up high enough? I usually have mine set a little below half.

You've either got a bad mixer, input level problems or some kind of line level problem. Do you have a -10/+4 switch on your soundcard? Can you get a decent signal with a microphone into the mixer? You really need a preamp or DI for direct guitar input to get a line level signal into your mixer channel. You shouldn't be getting that much hiss if you're getting a good signal all the way through.

first place I would check is the recording mixer for windows. It took me a while to find that one too when I first started using CEP!
