led zeppelin III vocals

hey i was just listening to Led Zeppelin III, the folkier zep album, and has anybody noticed that the vocals are much too quiet in contrast to the instruments on pretty much the whole album. don't know why this is, but it is. all the other albums are produced very well, especially the second album.

well, i am only familiar with the songs "Immigrant Song", "Tangerine", and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" from that album, and from those 3 songs, i think the vocals are at good levels that do not strike me as very different from their other albums/song mixes.

I think it's just a less in your face album, recorded out in the countryside, much more organic, and mixed accordingly. They were diggin the wood.

I've been kinda intrigued about the recording sessions for this particular record (I'm planning a similar recording sebatical in the spring). Any good websites out there with stories and photos from the LZ III recording session?

A great book with some good info on a lot of their recording and history is Hammer of the Gods. Ive read it like 5 times, got a good bit about those seasons.
