is there a must for recording vocal with a large diaphram condenser, like the sm-58 for live vocals??? or, what types of vocal condensers do you recommend and why? thanks
A great place to start is with the Studio Projects B1 large diaphragm condenser mic ($79-$85) and an AudioBuddy mic preamp ($75). This combination will allow you to record vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, drum overhead, and just about anything else that makes sound.
I've heard a lot of bad things about the Marshall mics. Samson makes a cheap LDC with switchable polar patterns about $200
Also look through the classifieds I've found a Cannaut Acoustic Designs LDC for $300cdn. It's heavy duty (Tries to function like a U87). don't want to seem like a Vulture but, there's studios closing down everywhere. Keep your eyes peeled for the deals.
