Hello my friends

Im a bit of a noob when it comes to Microphones. But I know that the SM 57 is like the most used Mic so Im shure (Get it lol) many of you have one in your possesion.

I just purchased the Shure Drum Mic kit that comes with 3 SM 57's and one Beta 52.

My problem is the screen houseing on the Sm 57's is very loose. you can turn it freely. All 3 mics are like this so Im asuming this is just the way these mics are.

When I begin to mic the drums I get a nasty rattle that comes from these screen housings being so loose.

Is there something wrong with these mics?
Is there something wrong with me?
I cant see why the ends would be so loose and Im rdy to take these suckers back.

Please fill me in on the SM 57's

No need to cross post.....

We see ALL the forums and I answered you in the Mic forum...........

I seen your reply friend.

The reason I also posted in this forum is because I know not EVERYONE sees ALL posts in ALL forums.
So I asumed there may be folks that are browsing the recording forum that would have knowledge on this matter for it is appropriate topic for both forums.

Granted many board trolls will be skimming through many of the forums but Im sure theres just a couple that are not going to be in the Mic forum tonight. Just mabey ya never know. Or do you?

So unless you know for sure that every single person that frequents this forum also frequnts the Mic forum every night and can offer me some physical evidence I will feel much safer posting in both forums aswell as remain confident that its not spam.

I can assure you that your post will be seen by the people in the best position to answer your questions (ie, the regulars)..........

In any case CROSS POSTING is seriously frowned upon and is against this site's etiquette... so I suggest you reconsider your need for "assurance of post visibility"...........

Cool?

Dude youv got an attitude problem.

I didnt come here to spam or to flame yet your doing a damn good job of bringing it out of me.

And Im sorry if you feel the desire to nit pic me about CROSS POSTING.

I see your a regular by the amount of your posts but quite frankly I didnt come here JUST for the regulars ok.

I was hopeing to get some input from many people noobs and all which is why I posted here as well.

I apologise if it really really bothered you I can asure you I meant no harm or disrepect. I mean I didnt mean to come here to YOUR mesage board and break rules.

So my friend I guess its not cool. I really dont care to hear any more of your advice and recomend you not reply to anything more that I post.

I guess If I break rules then a Mod will tend to me as they see fit. But as far as it goes with you... at this point I dont care how it goes with you.

Good day to you.

P.S thanks for all the great advice. you been so helpful I cant thank you enough.

Newtons,

As someone who has less than 10 post, here's some advise:

1. Humble thyself and learn.
2. DOn't cross post, EVERYBODY can see EVERYPOST. They don't have to jump from forum to forum. This is something people with more than 10 post would know. ;)
3. We have no moderators, those names are for show only. ;)

Other than, welcome to this site! :):D

Fuck all this useless noise.

Back to your original question:

I was freaked out by this spinning cover when I bought my first SM-57.

Rest assured that's the way they are.

End of discussion! HAH!

Drstawl you rock :)

Thank you for being smart enough to see a simple question and offer a simple answer. I
nstead of pretending to be smart by stating the obvious :)

And I second that fuck all this noise :)

Take care my friend

Newton... Bruce aint the one of you with an attitude problem... I can assure you....

heh heh..

Ya know Blue Bear....It's getting to the point that when I see a glimpse of your fuzzy lil bear icon further down a post..I know there's gonna be some bitching going on...:D

just an observation..:p

Another observation...

... I was amicable until he copped a bullshit attitude..........

High!

Me being too lazy for looking in the mic forum saw this post just accidentally and stepped in. I don't own any sm57, but the ones in my rehearsal room have the covers fixed with a tiny (about 5-10mm wide) ring of gaffa tape...

Perhaps this helps

aXel

BTW: I'm also not so into these cross postings simply as I have a modem line and spent too much time in downloading the same question twice :D

I dun tink so Bloo Bair

Your very first post (all beit hidden from the average wild staring eye) was filled with your all mighty sarcasm.

Its almost as if everything you say should be followed by a sarcastic "DUH!"

You see I have amazing powers of observasion and seeing how Im a smartass myself I can see your smartass coming amile away.

See you came in and stated your opinion about drum clips as if it was fact. As if what you say is final. End of discussion. Resistence is futile.

You answered questions I never asked in attempt to show all the ingrates that fall short in the shadow of your wisdom how smart you are. For I never asked about drum clips. I never asked about mounting technichs. I only asked if the End Cap on my SM 57's was SUPPOSED to be loose by design for if they were not I would have knonw I had defective equipment. You kept on giving answers to stupid questions I never asked.

And you didnt like my reply to that. I guess you were looking for a reply more like.......
" Oh gee thank you Blue Bear I was so stupid not to think that a clip mounted right to a tom would cause vibrations that would intern vibrate this mic which has a loose endcap. And to think it was Marketing Nazis all along that planned this out to just to ruin my recording session lastnight"
Nope didnt reply with that one. I replied with something more like....

Gee thanks Bear thats a good idea unfortuantly its an answer to a question i never asked............NEXT

So you inturn reply with even more sarcasm. And then Nit Pic me like the uptight asshole you are because I chose to ask folks in the recording forum aswell. Which inturn escalated because you THOUGHT you were so right and you were so damn wrong. You gave me the worst advice out of any that replied yet Ill bet you thought you hit the nail on the head lol Of course you did you know and see all (cough) posts. :)

See your one of those know it all's that likes to state the obvious so it looks like you know what your talking about. Granted I can tell you do have some quality engineering experience. But I can also tell that your KNOW IT ALL attitude is probly whats held you back from being 10 times the engineer that you could have been today.

That "Im right this is wrong throw it out the window!" attitude is the furthest possible thing from being the RIGHT WAY. IMO

AND AS FAR AS THIS TIF ABOUT THE CROSS POSTING!
(and this is directed to the Nit Pickers. you know who you are. And I will also know who you are shortly cause you will probly be posting here to flame me) :)

When you guys so vaugely state "We see all posts" are you refering to setting the option to where you see every new post from all forums in one listing?
If so I say goodie for you thats your option to be bombarded with a mix of differnt types of topics. (No wonder you think im spamming you)

I may only have a few posts on this BBS but I am no noob to a BBS. And I have been droping by this board from time to time for info since Feb 2001. (As you can plainly see by my register date to this BBS) And to this day I still browse this BBS by forums. I do not SEE ALL POSTS. and I dont want to SEE ALL POSTS.

Personaly I like to choose a forum first. Its more orderly and I get to the info Im looking for faster. And I dont get bombarded with very similar posts. Im sure there may be 1 or 2 others that frequent this board that do the same. For if they do then the chance that they would have missed my post in the "MIC FORUM" was pretty high. And I knew the Recording Forum would also be a great place to find my answer as Im shure theres mabey 1 or 2 people in this demographic which own a SM 57 aswell. Which is what my topic and question was about. I was asking ALL SM 57 owners a question.

So again im sorry you choose to see ALL NEW POSTS but I feel thats your problem not mine.

I know damn well the importance of a no cross posting etiquite on popular boards.

I still feel confident that me posting in 1 addtional forum. (only 1 mind you. Only one that was another VERY appropriate forum for this topic.) was not spam! Granted mabey desperate :) but not spam. And surly not deserving this bombardemnet of Nit Pics.

Ya see when I signed up noone pulled me aside and said "Hey you got to set your view so you see posts from all forums in one mixed up list. Its just the way its done here."

And I dont care what you seem to think but not everyone SEES ALL POSTS! There are many that choose to surf by topic. With that said say the perfect engineer that has the one and only answer to my question logs on and browses through the recording section. Mabey to check replies from previous night mabey continuing ongoing discusions mabey not. What are the chances he might logg off with out visiting the MIC forum to see my one and only post to which he has the one and only answer?
Probably pretty high a. Granted Im taking this metaphor to the extream but no more extream then you Nit Pickers have done to me :(

So personaly I feel that if your uptight because I posted this topic into 2 appropriate forums on a site which has so many similiar forums then thats your problem. I mean if your so wound up inside that you have to take time to come in here and nit pic me about these 2 posts (2 mind you. 2 posts in very appropriate forums) then I really could care less what you think.

I mean comon man you guys are hitting me like I spammed this in a dozen forums. Its BS I tell you.

Its 2 posts in appropriate forums. Get over it! Sounds to me like its your guys choice to view ALL POSTS. I mean what do you expect when you merge 20 differnt lists into one list. Think theres a chance youll see the same thing twice?

Naaa your right I will obey the nit pickers ................NOT!

BTW Meshugga

Yes I have an attitude. But at this time i dont have a problem with it. Mabey you have a problem with it. And that my friend is welll..... YOUR PROBLEM.

And if you had been up to speed on my other CROSS POST
you would see Bruces attitude. And I mean his very first post. which may seem harmless at first glance but I know the tone in which he was speaking and it was a my shit dont stink tone.

And just because I didnt like his answer (Seeing how it was to a question I didnt ask) and argued it he got very sarcastic and pissy.

And Im the type o guy that dosnt walk away from this kinda shit. (Not one of my strong points or something Im proud of. Just the way it is).

I just dont like to take any shit from these assholes that like to shuvle it out of their mouths everday.

So Meshugga go take your smurfy ass over to Brucies lil cow patty pasture and get you a double dip.

BLAH blah blah blah blah blah
If you don't want answers to your questions - don't ask
If you like to ask questions but don't read answers - don't ask
If you have a problem with people here who do know their shit - go away.
If you have so much free time that all you can do is writing long tirades........... oh well you get my drift

Aside from your bullshit Newt old boy..........

The fact is - I checked out a couple of clips, and the truth is...... YOU NEED THIS SITE'S INFORMATION....... QUITE BADLY...

So I suggest that if you actually want to cut some decent sounding tracks and improve your recording skills; you sit the fuck down, shut the fuck up, and maybe - just maybe - you'll actually start absorbing some knowledge into that gargantuan cranium of yours, smart guy...........

S Joke O

You can quit frankly Suck it my friend.

Cause I asked questions and didnt get no answers.
Cause I read answers to questions I didnt ask.
Cause my questions were replied to with sarcam and atitude from know it wannabes.

BTW Brucy I wonder if you know that your cutting down recordings I did 5 years ago when I was about 19 and my only engineeering skills was a guitar a distortion pedal and an amp.

When I finaly got serious I bought a VS 1680 and a cheap drum machine and dove into it. Learned it all on my own with no schooling what so ever so I think I did some pretty good recordings considering Im a novice with very limited gear.

Like ive said 50 times already Brucie here didnt give answers to my questions.

I asked if the SM 57's end casp are supposed to be loose.

Brucie replies talking about the drum clips and trys to explain how Viration from the clips is rattleing the mic. I ALREADY FAULKIN KNEW THIS! I knew damn well why the mics were vibrating. I knew dman well how to fix it.

What I didnt know is why this so called Kit I bought would be so incomaptible.

For I dont care how much he insists not to use clips I find there is not a damn thing wrong with using clips giving the apprpriate mic is on them clips.

Again it all falls back to my original question "MY SM 57'S HAVE A LOOSE END CAP. IS THIS NORMAL?"

So Brucie here NEVER answered my question.

He tryed to pour a bunch of obivous information on me to make it look like he was helping.

And as for my Tirade. Im sitting here having my morning coffe so yes I have some free time to blow off some steam.

So flame away el JOKE O. cause just like Brucie your post here resolves nothing. it answers nothing. Im sure you thought your were sheding some sorta light into this grey area but you havent.
