Hi Alan

Can you tell me if I were to buy a used original (v1.05) SC2 compressor, what can I expect to go wrong with it and are the parts still available? Should I always be able to get it fixed?

Are you still a fan of the early SC2? Do you know how much they go for?

Well, if it is a very early one, then it does not even have the output gain control on the back. Even if it does, you have the problem of the cells that come out of alignment and get weak. That is why PMI did the dual output mod on the front panel of the latest SC2's so you could compensate for these problems.

The older ones are more agressive. It seemed as the SC2 kept getting refined by Ted Fletcher, they lost their balls. The ones we have been re-designing since we bought Joemeek are much more agressive. In fact, I have several V 1.05's and V1.07's. We used them to A/B against the new Joemeek compressor Allan Bradford just designed. The new ones kick ass!

Even so, if you can get a deal on one, then it is worth it to have, but it will have some quirks. The units can be fixed, but the slope pot is very hard to get and very expensive. This is the only concern I would have.
