Is there something wrong with my new Audio-technica 30 mic?

I bought it the other day and i've heard alot of good things about Audio-Technica, so that helped me make my choice. But when i got it home and tryed it out, the sound i got from it was a lack of bass (on Somethings like on overheads) and a upper mid at 1khz sound with a super bright high end that sounds like it goes all the way up to around 20khz. Is there some phasing problem going on here? or is this how the mic is suppost to sound like?

Here's a photo of the mic:

As I've said MANY times. I generally love AT mics but this is the only mic I've ever got rid of. I just didn't like the way it sounded on damn near everything I tried it on. YMMV.

Interesting. Looks pretty flat on paper.
At least it's not +5 on the top like a lot of mics out there.
???:D

The old Nady scm900 mic that i gave $100 for sounds better than this mic. About the only thing that i could get it to sound good on was acoustic guitar. Anything else like vocals or stuff, you can forget it. Musician's friend has the nady mic with a s/m for $59 bucks. I might just get me one.

i have 2 of those mics and have had no problems... i have used them on bass drums (distant mic), guitar cabs (distant mic), as overheads, on toms and on vox....... I have been able to get good sounds from them.... the only thing i didn't like it that much on was as a distant mic on a guitar cab.......and that's just because i didn't need a roomy sound for the band i was recording....

i think that maybe you got a bad mic.

i'm referring to the 3035, not the nady's

Take it back to where you got it from... if you can't do that... sell it.

zeke this may sound retarded

but make sure you don't have the bass roll off switch engaged. I have one of these mics and it works fine for me, very bright like you say but ive never had a problem with the lack of bass your describing.

I have 2

Ive got 2 of these mics and i am very happy. I use them mainly on acoustic guitar at the moment, i have to roll off the bass at 120hz as i play hard without a pick so i get loads of bass.

But as OH i have used these loads of times. Ensure that your mic placement is correct for the use. I tend to get more bass than i need on these mics.

Just 0.02
I have the mic....I find it very good for the price
A friend of mine got one the other day and is happy with it too
Your particular unit could be bad

I find for acoustic instruments and voice you have to be right on the mic to get a good sound. Too much space between the mic and instrument I find not enough bass also. For amps and drums (loud) it does a real decent job. I really like the mic over rack toms so I need only 1 mic over 2 drums.
