I was thinking about getting and RNC, but I just bought a firepod, a matched pair of SP B1's, a set of MXL mics, Rokit 8 monitors, a new computer, cables , stands and a Furman power conditioner so I'm strapped for money :/ My buddy gave me his old Waves Gold software and I was wondering if I can use the compressor on that in real time to get intial compression or limiting like I would on the RNC. I'm brand new to recording so I'm not to sure about this stuff yet. Any input would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Most programs you could so I don't see why not. Anyway it might be better to keep it in the box than pulling it out and in again, think about all the unnecessary resistance.

It depends on what you are using the compressor for. If you are using it for the sound of the compression, yes you can use it instead of the RNC.
If you are using it so you don't clip the converters, No, it won't work for that. (because the signal already went through, and clipped, the converters before it gets to the Waves compressor)
