I'm a total noob

How much does the mic matter? I have a Boss Micro BR, a mic that came with a cheap karaoke machine, a tiny PA, a laundry room, zero experience, no recording knowledge and about an hour each day. I only want to make some song demos. They don't need to be the Dark Side of the Moon but I don't want them to sound stupid.

I would hasten a guess that you'll want to upgrade pretty quick but if it works...

It's all relative. Don't agonise over how things might sound, record something and ask yourself if it's good enough. Post your efforts up here and the regulars will give you some tips.

In terms of gear and room, you are starting from a low base, but it all depends upon what you're actually trying to achieve.

I guess I'd say get a USB interface and REAPER software and go for it. My first recordings were pretty bad but I learned a lot from the guys here. Now they are just ok lol...
