what are your guyes input on this plugin? how does it match up to the real thing...i know it probablly doesnt come close to the real thing at all but i just wanna know what people thinik before i go out and but this:) thanks

yeah guitar rig is pretty cool my friend has it..i dont really like the distortion...

Guitar rig is awesome but watch out, its a huge drain on CPU. Make sure you're computer can run it happily before buying it.

That said, Amplitude kicks ass but I would go for guitar rig if I could choose (my friend has both).

It really depends which tone you're aiming for--Guitar Rig blows for hi-gain metal stuff, while Amplitude wouldn't be as well suited for poppy clean guitar.

Guitar Rig's also more customizable. But don't use it if you want a good tone that's near the "heavy" spectrum.

IMHO, I don't think Amplitube, Guitar rig, or many other plug based amp sims do the high-gain metal thing particularly well on their own. But when blended judiciously with a miced amp, they can do wonders. :)

They're also great for running all sorts of crap (vox, keyboard/syth, ac guitar etc) through for effect.

A friend of mine has Amplitude. He raved about how great it sounded and how it was the best amp modeler he'd ever heard... blah, blah, blah.

I played around with it for an hour or so-- I didn't like it. It sounds OK. But a well mic'd amp sounds way better in my opinion.

If I was just doing some composing/arranging/songwriting and didn't want to mess with mic'ing my amp, Amplitude would be pretty handy. But I'd never use it as my sole guitar tone on a finished product. Now that I think about it, I'd just get a POD or equivalent since that won't use up any processing power in the computer. (I don't have any type of modeler, so that tells you where I stand on the modeling issue)

Another disadvantage about plugin amp modelers is latency. With a reasonably fast system you can usually set the buffer size small enough so that it isn't noticable, but otherwise you would have to bypass the effect while recording or it'll screw up your timing.
