i have no idea what i'm doing

i play drums, bass, and a little guitar.
i've been in a few bands
but we never ended up recording
i'd like to get a set up to do some recording for myself when i'm bored
and screw around without the band and for when my band gets it together enough to record

I just have no idea where to start
i'd like to be able to do recording on my computer
but i'm not sure what i'll require
the software or the hardware
i just don't know where to start
and i'd don't have a ton of money so yeah...

any help would be great

Here's and interface that has a bunch of guitar amplifier models in it which would also be good for bass --- LINK --- and as far as software goes I'd recommend Tracktion --- LINK. It's cheap but not flimsy, and is very easy to learn.
