hi!
I am 15 years old
I am a pianist and guitarist.
I have been playing piano since I am 7 years old and I am now playing the electric guitar for 1years and a half (and I already got the mighty 5150 with me hihi :P)
I am on a very very low budget (still paying that 5150!!!)
I have one mic that belongs to my friend ( a cheap chinese realistic dynamic unidirectional mic) and I have one condenser (have to put batery in it) (small diaphragram) but its my fathers so I cant always use it.

So both mics arent mine and I want to start to buy a few mics, mixers, pre-mics etc....

I would like to know, for a 15 years old who is pationate for music and has perfect pitch and wants good quality at a reasonable price, what would you suggest to begin with?

I already have software for my computer (sonar, sonic foundry) and I have a sound blaster live 5.1

what do you suggest? thx a lot guys

recommending the right mic for perfect pitch requires some additional thought... ;)

What Chessrock said!

A Studio Buddy and an SP B1 will set you back 150 bucks.

Another option is an Marshall MXL67B (or 67G), which will set you back about the same as an SP1 (80 bucks). ART MP Studio preamps now go for about the same as an Audio Buddy (79 bucks - I've even seen 59 at some places)!

Good luck!

You're 15 and you don't already know the answer? How can this be?????????

:p :p

Just an FYI - perfect pitch is not a very useful factor in choosing sound equipment........

But I'll agree with chessrock - a decent condenser and a better soundcard (than the SBLive) will certainly get you off the ground... the rest you'll have to learn by reading, asking questions, and practicing......

Yes, I know that perfect pitch wont help in choosing mic, but in a way, I remember that my music theorie/history/solfege teacher was always giving me some tapes to practice my ear (recognizing chords, notes, rythms) and I remember that the tapes were always like 1/4 step bellow the note desired... but I guess that has nothing to do with mic... its just because of the tape... ah well... sorry for bothering you with perfect pitch :P

but thanks a lot guys... I read really a lot about recording, mixing, mastering and I hope I will get some money soon to start out recording.

I was thinking about buying the audiophile sound card, with a shure SM57 (micing guitar etc), with an SP b1 (for all around accasions) and a SO VTB-1 as a preamp... but do you think the audio buddy is a better preamp then the VTB-1?

thx a lot guys!

Sounds like your making some good chioces.

The audio buddy is a less expensive pre then the VTB-1, not a better one.
VTB-1 is highly recommended around here. So is the DMP3, which has 2 channels… the DMP-3 does not have toobz like the single channel VTB-1 but it is a very clean, solid 2 channel pre for $200. Since your using 2 mics a good 2 channel pre might serve you better than a 1 channel.

just food for thought.
