Hello all!

What's the "character" of the sound from an Oktava C3000B?
Bright? Neutral? Coloured?
I've been thinkin' of ordering one, so I'm just wondering if anybody could throw in some pros and cons about this mic..

Regards,

Simon

Do you mean the AKG C3000B? I've never heard of an Oktava model with that moniker?

I've never used the AKG, so I can't comment. As alway, it depends on what you want to record with it.

Assuming you mean the AKG, we have one and use it for recording female vox. Just about everybody on this bbs slags it off. It's extremely bright and does nothing at all for the lower frequency ranges. Sounds awful on male vox.

However for the girls it works very well - I am very pleased with it in this role (and gather a number of studios think the same) but wouldn't use it for anything else and would not recommend it as an only or a general purpose mic.

Hope that helps

I like it alright for highhat and some raspy vocal sounds. It's not as bad as some would have you believe but I would rather have a few dozen other mics first.

If you mean the Oktava 319 ($99), people who own it say it is darker than most "hyped" budget condensers, and they seem to like it quite a bit on certain voices.

I'm not sure which mic your referring too..... but, IMO the AKG C3000B would be considered a bright sounding mic, whereas the Oktava MC319 would be considered a dark sounding mic. Also the Oktava MC319 is an off-axis type mic.

What Garry said on the AKG C3000B is true, remember to wear shades! :)

Sorry, I sure meant the AKG, my head was so full of microphone brands when I wrote that thread, so I mixed 'em up..
Thank you all for your answers, it seems like the AKG C3000B isn't a mic in my style..
