-i have Sonar 4.
-A good computer...amd3500,1g ram, sound blaster audigy 2 zs.
-i play punk or hardcore type music.

how would i go about getting a good recording on distortion. would i plug from an amp right in the computer. or have to buy a microphone and record it comming out of the amp. i am completly new to recording so i have no idea.

If you have a good amp and a decent mic, you will almost always get a better sound than going direct. The sound of the speaker "pushing air" is difficult to replicate through other means. Use the search function for plenty of tips on techniques for recording amps (mics, positioning, amp settings, etc.). If you are recording direct, you will want an amp/speaker modeler, like the line 6 stuff or the v-amp.

It sounded like you said pug your amp right in to your computer? DONT DO THIS....if you meant using a sonar amp nevermind....but micing your amp is best...from experience sonar amps are frustrating when you are trying to get a certain distorted sound....one thing that works to get a distorted guitar heavy (a little off topic)....is to record many different tracks with different setting but the same guitar....and then mix them down to one track....

If your talking about me, the Spider's got a line out. If your talking about mckayormacky, yeah, definitely not unless the amp's got a line out.
