How is the AT4047 different than the AT4050?

I'm looking into getting a AT4050 mainly for vocals but to be used for what ever else I can as it will be my only condenser mic. Just curious as to how it differs from the AT4047, aside from the multipattern option. Is it a completely different sound?

Thanks,

Mongoo

I'm not an expert on either of these, but the 4047 uses a transformer and is reportedly based on a U-47 FET design (hence the "47" in the name). It is more colored than the 4050, which uses a transformerless design. I think the 4050 is probably more versatile and the 4047 has more vibe. The 4047 is on my list of vocal mics I'd like to try with my Sebatron.

The 4047 supposedly has a bit more of the classic "scoop." For an Audio Technica mic, that is. Which isn't actually saying a whole lot. :D
